The Summer was a very successful one for some of our sporting students. In Hockey seven of the U16 players were selected to go forward for Connacht Hockey trials. Jessica Greer, Rachel Elfaki, Maeve McLoughlin, Lara Swann, Sophie Reynolds, Roisín Gillmor and Meabh Gillmor all went to Galway for trials. This was the largest number of SGS girls ever selected to go for provincial trials and ultimately three of our students made the Connacht U16 squad. The successful girls were Meabh Gillmor, Lara Swann and Maeve McLoughlin. Well done to all the girls and huge thanks to coach, Ms McDermott.
Our Senior Rugby players too had a successful run in Connacht Schools Rugby with six students making the Connacht Schools teams. At U19 level Matthew O’Hara, Kacper Palamarczuk, Eddie Coyle and Mark McGlynn were chosen for Connacht, while Adam Hunter made the Connacht U18 squad. Hubert Gilvarry was selected for the Sub Academy of the Connacht professional team. Well done to the boys and many thanks to their coaches.
The summer also saw success for our sailing students with Jessica and Mark Greer winning the Mirror Western Sailing Championship at Lough Ree Yacht Club at the end of August. What a great end to their summer holidays!
