Now in their third week of secondary school, the First Year students at SGS are settling in nicely. This year sees the biggest intake of students into first year that the Grammar School has ever had. In order to ease their way into secondary school the first years had a day dedicated to themselves on Friday 27th August. They were shown around the school by their TY mentors, who had come to school earlier in the week for training by Junior School Coordinator Fiona Kilroy. They also met their Form teachers, Elayne McDermott, Claire Treacy, Pauric Cassidy and Zoe Hall, who will continue to look after them as they make their way through the school year. To round off the day the students were treated to home-made ice cream made by past pupil Stephan O’Hara, whose ice-cream business has really taken off in Sligo. Now into their first term, the first years are well under way both in their studies and in extra-curricular activities, showing great interest in the many after-school clubs and sports on offer. Good luck to all our new students. See some photos HERE.
