On Wednesday 2nd Oct. Sligo Grammar School hosted an Open Evening for all prospective students. The school was buzzing with activity as all departments welcomed primary school pupils and their parents from all over the region. As the visitors arrived at 6pm the school choir serenaded them from the foyer mezzanine. Staff and sixth year Prefects then led groups around the school to get a taste of the subjects, sports, and extra curricular activities on offer in the school. Dedicated SGS students from all year groups met and chatted with the visitors, giving them a sense of what the school is all about. School clubs as diverse as Creative Writing and Rowing, as well as sports such as Hockey and Rugby displayed their work or offered the young students a chance to “have a go”! The different departments including Modern Languages, Science, Art, Music, TG, Woodwork, Geography, History and, of course, Business Studies, displayed students work and gave brief “tasters” of their subjects. It was after 9pm before the throng dispersed and exhausted teachers and SGS students finally got home. The school deeply appreciates the time and effort that was needed and thanks all students, catering staff, administration staff and of course SEN and teaching staff who made it all possible.
