Every year students from TY participate in Gaisce, The Presidents Award. This is a National initiative to get young people involved in community activity and personal development over a full year. This year we had 27 students completing their Bronze Gaisce Award. During TY they took on a physical skill, a personal skill and committed to some sort of community involvement. The final part of their Gaisce Award was to complete an Adventure Journey. On the 29th of August, accompanied by Ms Tiernan and Mrs Lipsett, the – now 5th year students – travelled to Westport, where they cycled the Greenway from Achill to Westport, a distance of nearly 50 km. Hannah Ryan was unable to participate in the cycle and instead completed the challenge by hiking the greenway with her brother James. The students stayed overnight in a hostel in Westport. On Friday the 30th they went to Westport Adventure Centre. Students attempted scaling the heights on the high ropes before the day was cut short by very wet weather conditions. Some photos can be seen HERE. Our Bronze Gaisce Award students should be congratulated on their achievement which they all completed with great enthusiasm and commitment. Gaisce is something that all TYs should do and Ms Tiernan will be speaking to current TY students shortly about participating in the Bronze Gaisce Award.
