Art students from Sligo Grammar School last year embarked on a project inspired by St Paul’s Church, Collooney, which is finally celebrating its 300th anniversary this year. The celebrations were delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but now are going ahead on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 September. Visitors are invited to come along and view the art work which will be on display between 11am and 12.30pm. The art work was made in response to the Church and graveyard. Senior students visited the church and designed and made batik hangings that reflected aspects of both the interior and exterior of the Church. Junior students studied photos of the Church exterior and designed a group ceramic piece that reflects the Church and its grounds. It is interesting to see how the different students were inspired by St Pauls and it is a treat for them to see the work on display. The photo here was taken while the work was still in the school but will give a flavour of what’s in store. A warm welcome is extended to all, and the students involved would love to see their friends and families visit the Church and enjoy viewing their work, so please come along!
