Since Lockdown TY students in SGS have had a very busy time. The minute the school re-opened the TY co-ordinator, Mr Giblin, had a wide variety of workshops and activities ready to go. All students have had the chance to make a traditional bodhrán which was great fun and very rewarding. Students had a great sense of achievement as they learnt the skills involved in crafting a musical instrument. This dovetailed nicely with a Drumming workshop. A special workshop on Disability highlighted the issues around living with a disability, while past pupil and Irish Paralympian, Martin Gordon, spoke to the students about his experiences and many achievements after he lost his sight as a secondary school student. Physical wellbeing was also tackled in “Boxercise” sessions and in Irish Dancing workshops, which were hugely enjoyed. More workshops and activities are planned for May, so TYs will be kept busy until the end of what has been a very unusual school year.
