Irish Angus Competition 2023

Posted on : February 2, 2023

On Monday 16th January, TY students Ellen Hunter, Lara Clinch, Louise Robertson and Sophie Swann attended the Irish Angus Beef Schools Competition interviews in TUS Midlands Campus in Athlone. The competition asks students to present projects promoting Irish Angus beef.  There are three stages in the initial round of the competition from which five groups will be chosen. Each group will get 5 Angus Calves to raise over 18 months with the most successful group being named  the outright winners in 2024.  The area the girls investigated was how they might develop consumer awareness of the health benefits of including Irish Angus beef as part of a balanced diet. In their  project they paid particular attention to healthy diets for young women. Stage one of the competition required them to submit a 3 minute video presenting their project and, having got through that, they moved on to stage two which involved a 20 minute interview with representatives from Irish Angus Producer Group, ABP and Kepak. The girls expect to hear the result of Stage two in the coming weeks. We wish the girls and their teacher Michelle Higgins the best of luck in the competition.
