Maintaining Normality(ish)

As we all know, in 2020 our experience of teaching and learning is quite different from what we are used to. However in Sligo Grammar School we are trying our best to keep the variety of experiences as close to normal as we can. On Wednesday and Friday last the TY classes spent a day dedicated to promoting wellbeing. Following morning workshops in the school they then went with their Form Teachers to climb Knocknarea and have pizza together in Strandhill. Throughout they maintained social distancing and wore their masks when appropriate. Other excursions related to their studies will be organised for other classes, provided the HSE guidelines can be maintained. The LC Geography students will be doing their fieldwork shortly and Art students will be visiting St Paul’s Church, Collooney, as research for an upcoming project. The Junior Rugby Team had their first friendly of the season against Claremorris Colts U16 team. They enjoyed a comfortable win and it was a great start to the season for players and coaches alike. In general SGS students have been exemplary in their adherence to the guidelines on mask wearing and hand washing throughout the day and social distancing is maintained in all classes. Students are encouraged to go outside for a walk and a breath of fresh air at break time and lunchtime. Hopefully this positivity will continue throughout the term.
