First Whole-School Assembly of 2019 2020

The first Whole-School Assembly of the school year was held in Calry Church on Tuesday Sept. 3^rd. The Rev’d Canon Noel Regan led the prayers while the SGS choir led their schoolmates in song. After an address from the headmaster who spoke about the importance of optimism and positivity in the lives of our students and staff, the Prefects for 2019 -2020 were announced. The new Prefects were presented with their badges of office by Canon Regan. This year’s Head Boy is Adam Greer, Head Girl is Grace O’Sullivan, Deputy Head Boy is Max Stafford and Deputy Head Girl is Aife Haran. Congratulations to all the new Prefects who were elected by their classmates and their teachers. A Spelling Bee shield was presented to the winner of this new in-house competition. The winner was Tiarnan O’Connor. The Headmaster and Canon Regan also presented Kayaking Ireland Level Two Certificates to three Junior School students, James Gallagher, Conor Ryan and Killian Langton. Well done to the the three boys, who had successfully completed an assessment test last May. Finally, Mrs Tansey and Mrs Breslin took the opportunity to announce the main cast of the upcoming School Musical, Grease.
