Valedictory Day 2019

Posted on : May 18, 2019

Friday 17th of May saw the formal end to the secondary school career of the Class of 2019. The day was dedicated to the Leaving Certs, starting with a 6th year breakfast and the final whole-school assembly of the year and finishing with a special Valedictory Service in Calry Church in the evening. In between the students had a fun-filled day with the now traditional staff-student soccer match which the students won 3 – 1, and the – also by now traditional – sixth year water fight! Luckily the weather stayed fine and everyone was able to enjoy the day. The special Valedictory Service got under way at 7pm and the Leaving Certs’ parents, guardians, extended families and teachers attended to help them mark the end of six years of education at Sligo Grammar School. The service was led by Canon Patrick Bamber with readings by the deputy Head boy and Girl, Josh Conway and Annie Spearman. The Head Boy, Brian West, and the Head Girl, Juno Ellison, jointly addressed the congregation, reminding us of some of the highlights of their six years. Afterwards everyone was invited back to the dining hall to have some food. Although the students are now more or less finished with class, they will be attending study hall until the exams. Their teachers will be in attendance in case of any last minute questions, but it is all up to the students themselves now! We wish them all the very best in the coming exams.
