On Friday 26th October Sligo Grammar School celebrated its annual Prize Day in Calry Church. The school awards prizes for sporting and cultural excellence as well as academic achievement. This year our guest speaker was Katie Mullan, International hockey player and Irish Hockey Captain for the World Cup 2018. In her address to the students Ms Mullan said that we must enjoy our achievements and treat all upsets as opportunities for learning. She also spoke about the importance of friendship and said we should never underestimate the role our friends play in our lives. Prizes were awarded for first, second and best effort in each class, as well as for a wide variety of extra-curricular achievement and involvement. The Leaving Cert class of 2018 were also presented with awards to mark high achievement across all subject areas. Silver and gold medals were awarded to Oisín Moffatt and Aoife Winters-O’Donnell for excellence in the Junior Cert exam. The top awards were the Farra Cup for the student who contributed most to school life which went to Aoife Whiteside, and the Headmaster’s Award for outstanding achievement in the Leaving Certificate which was awarded to Eoghan Donohue, who scored 625 points in the exam. The Head Boy, Brian West and Head Girl Juno Ellison presented a report of the school year, while the Deputy Head Girl, Annie Spearman and Deputy Head Boy Josh Conway read from scripture. The day ended with the congregation being invited over to the school for lunch. See photos HERE
