WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT

Posted on : May 4, 2018

On Friday 4th May the whole population of Sligo Grammar School got together to attempt to set a new world record for the largest image of a human house. This was a whole-school fundraiser in aid of Focus Ireland in recognition of the wonderful work they do to help the homeless in Sligo and nationally. The weather was fantastic and all of SGS turned out to form an image of a house completely made from people! 402 students and staff filed onto the hockey pitch wearing red, blue or yellow ponchos and hair nets and went to their allotted place – red door and roof, blue windows and yellow walls and chimney! The rules stipulated that they had to maintain their position for 5 minutes and, counted down by Mr Cradock, everyone managed to do so – just about! Now we await the word from Guinness World Records to see whether or not we have managed to set a new record. In any event the afternoon was a brilliant success with over €2,000 donated to Focus Ireland. For the staff and students it was great fun working together and created a great sense of community within the school. Well done to everyone involved in organising the event,  especially Mr. Henry, Mr Giblin and Mrs Lipsett and thanks to the Parents Association, Focus Ireland, the Gárdaí, Guinness World Records, Niall Canning and everyone else who made the day such a success.  See some photos HERE
