INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS IN SGS 2019 – 2020
Every year Sligo Grammar School welcomes foreign students to the school. Many come for TY and spend the year improving their English. SGS offers TEFL classes to the International students at the same time that their Irish classmates are studying Irish. This year our International students come from many countries, including Spain, Germany, Russia, Korea and USA. Last Tuesday, Ms. Martin took Spanish students for afternoon tea at Lilys and Lollys Café in the Yeats Building. While having their tea and scones Ms Martin taught them a little about Yeats, his poetry and discussed life and culture in Sligo. Some of the Spanish students had never tried home-made scones with butter and jam before and they thought they were “deliciosos”!!!
Sligo Grammar School exists to provide an education for the Protestant population of the North West, but, having said that we are liberal and egalitarian in our outlook . We are very lucky, however to have students from many diverse religious traditions and a number from none.
In recent years we have been a home-away-from home for international students. The school is a popular choice with students seeking to improve their English in a pleasant and relaxed part of the world, far away form the stresses of city life.
Currently we have students from Spain, Germany, South America, Belgium and Russia.
Our Boarding Department offers the opportunity for both Irish and international students to enjoy what Sligo Grammar School offers and to benefit from it. See our Boarding pages via the links below;
Students usually join the school at First Year but many also become students for Transition Year and Fifth Year.
