On Thursday 22nd December Sligo Grammar School held its Annual Carol Service . Students, teachers, families and friends gathered to celebrate the Christmas season with the traditional Service of Nine Lessons and Carols. Choirmaster Jonathan Carter led his choristers through some favourite carols and the choir treated the congregation to a lovely rendition of what was the “World Premiere” of Jonathan and Fionuala Carter’s new carol, “The Refugee’s Carol”. Lessons were read by students, staff and members of the Board of Directors and Parents Association. The headmaster, Mr. Michael Hall spoke about the plight of the homeless at this time of the year and the importance of charity and generosity towards those less fortunate than ourselves. As the congregation left there was a collection for Sligo Social Services and €1,600 was donated to the Social Services. This included money that was collected in the school through the sale of cookies baked by the HE Department. After the service the congregation was invited back to the school for lunch.
