Once again the Sligo Grammar School German Debating Team came out on top in their second German debate. This All-Ireland Competition is organised by the Goethe Institute in Dublin. The Sligo Grammar School team led by Captain, Oisín Sheerin, with Sara Bourke, Andrew Wood-Martin and Russell Nairn are all fifth year students.
Killian Rüß, our German assistant helps in preparing the students.
The first two debates dealt with social media and its dangers to young people, and the length of the school day in Ireland.
So far SGS has won two out of two debates, the first against Mercy College, Sligo and last Friday’s against Coláiste Cholmcille, Ballyshannon.
Andrew commented: “It’s a great way to understand the German language better and it really helps us improve our pronunciation!!”
