Today, Wednesday 9th March, Ms. McGlone’s 2nd year English class had a special field trip to see the set of Sligo Drama Circle’s production of “Translations” by Brian Friel. Part of the Junior Cert english exam requires students to have a knowledge of staging a scene from a play. In order to prepare the students for this they were treated to a behind-the-scenes look at the set and lighting of the current play at the Hawks Well Theatre. They discussed the importance of lighting and setting in order to create the mood and magic of theatre. The students were taken onto the stage to experience being on the set and shown how the lighting desk works. They have an opportunity to see the play if they wish on Thursday night as part of a group of students from the school. The Sligo Grammar School would like to thank Sligo Drama Circle and The Hawks Well Theatre for the opportunity to visit the set of “Translations”.
